Dieselec Thistle managing director, Paul Moore, has taken the Glasgow based standby power specialist a step closer to gaining recognition on a global scale this week as he accepted an Ernst & Young Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year Award, 2013 at Gleneagles.
One of the world’s most prestigious business awards, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award scheme is held in more than 140 cities across 50 countries worldwide, covering 94% of the global economy. The UK awards have seen 137 finalists make it to the regional finals this year and Paul was one of just nine finalists to receive a coveted Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year Award at Gleneagles on 13th June. The accolade gives him his ticket to the national finals in October, where he’ll compete against entrepreneurs from the North, Midlands, London & South and Northern Ireland regions. Once those prizes have been awarded, the chosen UK entrepreneurs will go forward to compete against their peers from around the world.
Paul has already been through a tough selection process to make it this far. After formal interviews held at Dieselec Thistle’s Milngavie headquarters, he was then invited to a full day event in Edinburgh for a mix of speakers and networking along with three ‘speed interviews’ with members of the judging panel. His Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognises the hard work, energy and expertise that Paul has put in to building Dieselec Thistle from a £7 million business just three years ago to a £20 million business today. The judging panel was also impressed with Paul’s success in building a team around him that shares his vision, drive and commitment.
Paul commented: “It’s a great honour to have been recognised with this award and I am delighted to share it with the rest of the Dieselec Thistle team who have worked alongside me with such dedication. This is the third award we have won over the past year and follows on from our success in being named the AMPS Generator Company of the Year and making it on to the Fast Track 100 list of the UK’s fastest growing companies. I would like to thank everyone at Dieselec Thistle for their continued hard work in helping the company grow and I look forward to the national finals for the Ernst & Young UK Entrepreneur of the Year Awards later in the year.”
