Angel’s share for Dieselec Thistle

We have been appointed to supply and install back-up power for a series of Scottish whisky distilleries.

The projects include: Torabhaig Distillery, a new £5m development housed in a 19th century farm steading on the Isle of Skye; Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain; The Macallan Distillery, part of the Macallan Estate near Moray in Speyside; and William Grant and Sons’ Girvan Distillery – founded in 1963 and producer of the world famous Hendricks Gin.

Donnie MacDonald, DTG Project Manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to support this vital Scottish industry and look forward to delivering robust, secure and well supported systems for these global brands.”

Torabhaig

The Torabhaig installation includes a 300kVA generator housed in a modular acoustic canopy designed to reduce the generator noise to 80dBA at one metre from the enclosure. Fuel is provided from a 5000 litre bunded tank installed adjacent to the generator and interconnecting fuel lines feature ‘twin wall’ design ensuring full compliance with all relevant standards. The generator control system is designed for automatic start stop control ensuring immediate generator back-up power in the event of loss of mains power to the distillery.

Glenmorangie

The Glenmorangie site had been subject to a number of prolonged power outages, the most recent lasted five hours. The existing site is equipped with a standby generator rated at circa 360kVA, which is sufficient to maintain the necessary base load to allow production to continue during outages. This being the case, the new ETP (effluent treatment plant) will have to be able to receive distillery effluent whilst maintaining control of odours. For this purpose a standby generator is being provided.

A 100kVA generator housed in a modular acoustic canopy designed to reduce the generator noise to 80dBA at one metre from the enclosure is being supplied. Fuel is provided from the 300 litre integral bunded tank. The generator control system is designed for automatic start stop control ensuring immediate generator back-up power in the event of loss of mains power to the ETP facility.

Macallan

Macallan will receive a 180kVA generator housed in a modular acoustic canopy designed to reduce the generator noise to 80dBA at one metre from the enclosure. Fuel is provided from the 500 litre integral bunded tank. The generator control system is designed for automatic start stop control ensuring immediate generator back-up power in the event of loss of mains power to the facility.

Girvan

William Grant and Sons’ Girvan Distillery is supplied with a 300kVA generator housed in a modular acoustic canopy designed to reduce the generator noise to 80dBA at one metre from the enclosure. Fuel is provided from the 500 litre integral bunded tank. The generator control system is designed for automatic start stop control ensuring immediate generator back-up power in the event of loss of mains power to the facility.
